Nathan like many teenagers on the 14th September 2003
went fishing, however Nathan never returned home. Whilst
fishing Nathan’s line got snagged on the black rocks close to
the waters edge at the Salmon Holes in Albany WA. After
loosing his footing and slipping further down the sloping rocks
onto the slippery black rock a wave swept Nathan off and into
the ocean.
The search for Nathan was called off after 3 days. Fortunately
our family was able to continue the search by using our own
resources and the help of locals. Each day an old car tyre
with three fishing floats and rope attached were used to
monitor the tides from where Nathan went in. Within 12 hours
it could be seen how far and where the search area was if
Nathan’s body was to surface. With such an understanding of
the tide movements only one boat was used to search the
area. Nathan’s body was recovered 8 days after he went in,
within the search area on Monday the 23rd of September
2003 by his uncle and his nephews; he was guarded by 2
Albatross.
